This project is to ensure that as more people invest in new electrically powered vehicles, there are sufficient places for them to charge those vehicles in Lyme Regis
- Date: ongoing, target for first phase installation March 2020
- Responsible: Simon West, Lyme Regis Town Council
Lyme Regis Town Council have undertaken to provide several new electric vehicle charging points in the car parks under their control around Lyme Regis.
The first phase of this project will be to install two or three 7kW Mode 2 charging points in Woodmead car park. Cabanya and Monmouth Beach car parks being subject to feasibility studies to ensure that sufficient power is available in the electricity network at those locations.
As of October 16th 2019 LRTC have agreed in principle to go ahead with this installation but await a specific proposal and costings from council officers.
A recent article (2019-10-15) showed that the best charging station provision in the UK is in the City of Westminster, with 375 charging points for 255,324 people (1.47 per 1,000 people). If Lyme Regis were to attempt to beat that rate of provision, we would need just six public charging stations (3,671 × 1.47 ÷ 1000 = 5.4)
